Axon Week 2026 Keynote Speakers

Rick Smith

Rick Smith is the CEO of Axon Enterprise. He founded the company in a Tucson garage in 1993 after two of his friends were shot and killed. Originally known as TASER International, Axon’s mission is to protect life — which includes making bullets obsolete. Rick’s family bet everything they had to get the company off the ground, nearly driving his parents to financial insolvency, and were saved only through TASER’s initial public offering in 2001. Rick has dedicated his life to helping public safety serve the communities they are sworn to protect. Under his leadership, Axon pioneered TASER energy weapons, made the body camera industry what it is today, and built the world’s leading digital evidence management platform, Evidence.com. In 2019, Rick published, “The End of Killing,” which challenges conventional wisdom by arguing that killing is a technology problem and offering a roadmap to solve it. He is a dynamic, inspirational and visionary leader who challenges Axon and society to rethink deeply entrenched problems and to drive toward life-saving outcomes. Rick holds a B.S. Cum Laude in Neuroscience from Harvard University, a Master's in International Finance from the University of Leuven in Belgium, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Larry Bird

Larry Bird, known as “The Living Legend,” is one of the most accomplished figures in basketball history and the only person ever to be named NBA Most Valuable Player, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year. A 12-time NBA All-Star and three-time league MVP, he led the Boston Celtics to three NBA World Championships and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame twice, first as a player in 1998 and again in 2010 as co-captain of the Olympic Dream Team. Following his legendary playing career, Bird guided the Indiana Pacers as head coach and later as President of Basketball Operations, earning NBA Executive of the Year honors in 2012. His enduring impact on the sport has been further recognized with the creation of the Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP Trophy and the opening of the Larry Bird Museum in 2024.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson

Earvin “Magic” Johnson is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Magic Johnson Enterprises (MJE), a global investment conglomerate with a mission to deliver high-quality products and services that focus primarily on ethnically diverse and underserved urban communities. After leaving the basketball court for the boardroom, Johnson successfully translated the leadership, discipline, and competitive excellence that defined his Hall of Fame playing career into a winning formula in business, ownership, and philanthropy.

Steven Pinker

Steven Pinker is a world-renowned cognitive scientist, Harvard professor, and bestselling author known for exploring how human thought works and what it reveals about language, society, and human progress. He has written influential books such as Rationality, Enlightenment Now, and When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows, and has been named by TIME as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. A sought-after speaker, Pinker connects scientific insights with big questions about human behavior, common knowledge, and cultural trends. His work draws on decades of research in psychology and linguistics to help audiences better understand how we think about each other and ourselves.
